My Favorite Thing About Running

Happy Tuesday on the Run! I’m linking up with Erika, Patty and Marcia to share my favorite thing about running: it has made me healthier.

Obviously the act of running helps one become healthier.  It’s a great cardiovascular workout.  But I’m talking about the healthier habits/feelings I’ve picked up since starting running six years ago.

Here are three positive effects running has had on me:

1. Better eating. Okay, this one is easy.  If I eat like crap, I run like crap.  Running makes me crave good-for-me foods, which leads to better performance.

2. Cross-training.  When I got injured a couple of years ago, I realized I couldn’t just run, I need to cross train, which lead to my love of triathlon. Now I swim, bike, run, strength train and stretch on a regular basis, making me a better athlete and just overall healthier than I was before I started running.

3. Mood makeover. When I first started running in 2010, it was to lose weight. Little did I know the positive affect it would have of my mood! I went from feeling down all of the time to feeling alive and looking forward to the day.
